KALORAMA LISBOA: THE FESTIVAL KICKS OFF NEXT SEPTEMBER WITH ARCTIC MONKEYS AS THE FIRST HEADLINER TO BE CONFIRMED

The first edition of the festival that orbits around music, art and sustainability will happen September 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd next year, at Bela Vista Park (Lisbon). Besides Arctic Monkeys, who have chosen the festival for their only show in Portugal in the upcoming year, lineup also includes The Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, Ornatos Violeta, Chet Faker, Moderat, Blossoms, Peaches and The Lathums.

Kalorama has been designed with a strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and will promote a new standard for festivals.

General sale starts December 1^st but since today there is a waiting list at kalorama.pt to access the pre-sale on November 29^th that will offer first fans a special price. 

Warning: next year the temperature will rise in Lisbon, specifically at Bela Vista Park – the place chosen to hold the first edition of Kalorama, the new music, art and sustainability festival scheduled for September 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd of 2022.

Located at one of the biggest urban parks in the city – and one of the most privileged spots in town, thanks to its immense green area, near public transports, the airport and city center and even with a beautiful river view on its highest point – it is precisely to this park that the festival owes its name, since “kalorama” means “bela vista” in Greek – and Greeks, as we all know it, have inspired culture and cultural manifestations throughout history. Promoted by House of Fun and Last Tour, the festival will open its doors for the first time next year, celebrating a new era and new attitudes, in line with the 2030 Agenda and its Development Sustainable Goals.

And it’s exactly with “music” that we are going to start, since the first names of festival’s lineup are already unveiled. Embrace for impact in 3, 2, 1…

Arctic Monkeys is the first confirmed headliner for the festival. After having confirmed, for the joy of the fans, a new album in 2022, the band will also be back on the road and picked Kalorama in Lisbon to hold their only show in Portugal during the next year. Also confirmed in the festival’s lineup is the British electronic duo The Chemical Brothers that this year also surprised the fans with new songs after a while and right in time to start warming up for the festival. The list goes on with more level-A names like the Germans Kraftwerk, one of the most important electronic projects of all times that next year will bring their sound directly from Dusseldorf to Lisbon. And “playing at home” is Portuguese cult band Ornatos Violeta, that with this announcement confirm their reunion on stage next September 2022, for a show that will be at least overpowering. 

Other name that also dismisses introductions is Chet Faker who just launched an “excellent and surprising” new album as said by the critic, that such acclaimed the project (Hotel Surrender). The trio Moderat will also be one such desired, especially now they have just announced on social media new shows and hinted at a fourth album. The festival will also welcome Blossoms, a band that in their first album (2016) have climbed to the top of the charts dethroning major artists that year, and the Canadian artist so loved by the Portuguese Peaches. To complete Kalorama’s lineup is a debut: The Lathums will play for the first time in Portugal. The indie band is having a Strong 2021 after reaching #1 in the UK with their début song “How Beautiful Life Can Be”, then having sold out the Victoria Warehouse and now being acclaimed by the critics for their Christmas single, being considered by many as the best of this year. 

But not only about music Kalorama is made of. Besides its high level musical proposal, that represents the best in international and national music scene giving the stage to both renowned artists and new talents, the festival also comes with a sustainable concern entrenched, compromised with the 2030 Agenda. With the goal to reduce its environmental impact to the maximum and, at the same time, creating cultural, social and economic benefits in a long term that can help improving the development and growth of local communities, the festival is committed to implement a transversal model, responsible and sustainable, that also engages with the public and partners to promote initiatives in order to change mindsets and attitudes. 

As an example of some measures that the festival will be taking, we highlight social inclusion, full transparency in all procedures, using less pollutant energies and more accessible ones, encourage local commerce, optimization and reuse of resources, among others. Aware of the responsibility that is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, festival’s commitment goes beyond this and is also about sharing these values with the whole team, promoting an experience where music can be enjoyed with no regrets, taking good care of the planet, supporting a sustainable cultural model, contributing for the city of Lisbon and giving the first steps towards a new era of festivals.
