Arctic Monkeys and Kraftwerk headline the first edition of the international festival Cala Mijas

Arctic Monkeys returns to Spain after 4 years and selects Cala Mijas festival as the only event in the country

The Costa del Sol will host the international event, which has been designed with a strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and will promote a new standard for festivals

Blossoms, Chet Faker, Hot Chip, The Lathums, Nathy Peluso and national artists Love of Lesbian, Sen Senra, El Columpio Asesino, among others, round out the first selection of artists at the new festival.

Summer holidays have found their perfect ending with the launch of the international festival Cala Mijas – a three-day event where living the experience is only a matter of attitude. Enjoy live music, the beach, the charm of the village of Mijas, the southern gastronomy, and sunsets that turn into sunrises. With a location that is second to none in the picturesque town of Mijas – an oasis of white houses and golden sandy beaches – this festival brings more than its carefully chosen selection of music. The music is accompanied by a clear commitment to ensure a festival standard that is environmentally responsible, preserves the area, and contributes to the local community, following the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, both in its execution and in the way its values and importance are promoted.

Music has been and continues to be a driving force for transformation and at Cala Mijas, we believe in the catalytic power of this art form to promote a transversal model of sustainability, capable of not only reducing its environmental impact as much as possible, but also of generating a lasting cultural, social, and economic impact that will promote the development and growth of the local community.

A truly committed festival cannot exist without a few big names. Today we are announcing the first 14 artists that comprise the line up of Costa del Sol’s international benchmark, Cala Mijas. Arctic Monkeys will headline the south of the peninsula’s new, epic festival. After more than four years without setting foot on Spanish soil, the Sheffield natives will touch down in Cala Mijas. With an exclusive tour date in our country, the band will become the masters of ceremony of this inaugural edition of the festival, claiming their throne as the kings of British rock.

If we mention synthesizers and electronic pioneers, it’s clear that we’re talking about Kraftwerk, and they couldn’t resist the charms of the coastal town of Mijas either. After all, to write the first lines of Cala Mijas’ biography, a living legend of electronic music is essential.

An international festival makes its debut on the Costa del Sol. The last weekend of Summer will include the return to the stage of the Australian Chet Faker, with his new album, the british band The Blossoms and the indietronica band of choice Hot Chip. Latin rhythms will be provided by one of the most outstanding ambassadors of the genre today, Nathy Peluso, whilst Love of Lesbian will join the event with songs like “Fantastic Shine” to remind everyone why we love that feeling of freedom and a vacation that lasts 365 days a year. And they won’t be the only ones: the eighties pop of The Lathums with their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be, which was number one in the UK for weeks; the electro-punk of El Columpio Asesino and the catchy melodies of Sen Senra will all be present at Cala Mijas next September. And the carefully selected first line up closes with more local names such as Rusowsky, Hnos Munoz, Uniforms, and the guitars and sass of Venturi. This is just a preview of artists from a line up that will be completed in the coming months, shaping the first edition of Cala Mijas.

A festival of present and future. The event’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and to the environment of the municipality of Malaga is one of the fundamental pillars of Cala Mijas.
