The professionals behind today’s leading artists will weather at the Euskalduna Palace from October 26 to 29.

The international meeting that serves as a bridge between Latin America and Europe is expected to bring together 4,500 professionals from more than 50 countries.

BILBAO: THE EPICENTER OF MUSIC, INNOVATION, AND BUSINESS

After its edition in Bogota, BIME will return to Bilbao—the epicenter of music, innovation, and international business—from October 26 to 29, as it has done every autumn for the past decade. Through the convergence, exchanges, and debates, BIME seeks to find the local and universal answers to the challenges facing the music industry, while simultaneously offering the public an extensive program of live music, bringing the latest musical trends from all over the world.

The gathering has positioned itself as an unmissable event in the international cultural and economic agenda, which consists of a complete and diverse program divided into two main areas:

  • BIME PRO, the congress aimed at the professional public, with three intensive days of networking, lectures, masterclasses and workshops that will take place at the Euskalduna Palace from Wednesday to Friday.
  • BIME LIVE, the program that will fill the halls and outdoor stages throughout the city with live music, open to the general public, until Saturday night.

DRIVING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY FOR 10 YEARS

This will be an exceptional edition as it celebrates 10 years since its birth, as well as the confirmation of the space as the benchmark gathering of the music industry at the international level. The event is expected to bring together more than 4,500 professionals, representing around 1,500 companies from more than 50 countries that are part of this industry in full expansion. According to a recent Goldman Sachs report, the sector is expected to grow by 166% in recorded music between 2017 and 2030, reaching a total of 80 billion dollars; 46% growth in live music, reaching a total of 38 billion dollars; and 106% growth in publishing rights, reaching a total of 12.5 billion dollars.

The bridge between Europe and Latin America is consolidated and clearly marked by the participation of large delegations from Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Finland, and Austria, among others. A total of 17 workshops and 70 panels with the participation of relevant figures such as:

  • Afo Verde, president and CEO of Sony Music Latin-Iberia and responsible for bringing stars like Bad Bunny, Rosalía, and Camilo to the top.
  • Rebeca León, to talk about her experience as manager of the most international Spanish artist of the last decade, Rosalía.
  • Neneh Cherry, an artist and cultural icon who paved the way more than thirty years ago and whose work is an object of pop cult, but also a model of artistic autonomy.
  • Christine White, programmer of more than 500 Jazz & Heritage Festival performances in New Orleans.
  • Jeff Rona, award-winning composer for legends such as Ridley Scott or Steven Spielberg.
  • Alicia Zertuche, CEO of RuidoFest and vice-president of Wonderlandia, who is considered one of the key players in the collaboration of the Latin American, Caribbean and US industries.
  • Rafa Sardina, renowned Los Angeles-based producer and winner of 18 Grammy Awards.
  • Mauricio Salazar, general director of TEDx Bogota.
  • Leila Cobo, vice-president of Billboard.
  • James Cruz, heavyweight of the global rap scene.
  • Mónica Zuluaga, director of digital marketing and innovation at Caracol Televisión.
  • Vicent Argudo, director of music at PRISA.
  • Joey Moya, editor of Remezcla.
  • Jonathan Finegold, founder of the multinational company specializing in synchronization, Finegold Music
  • Beatriz de la Pava journalist for BBC London, among many other industry leaders.

BIME will also host major parallel events, such as:

  • The European Music Export Exchange—which will bring more than 20 experts in music internationalization from different parts of the continent to Bilbao.
  • The celebration of the tenth anniversary of the European association of concert halls LIVE DMA, which will bring together the most important concert venues in Europe.
  • Additionally, the Conexiones i training program for internationalization, which was launched at BIME Bogota in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Spain and co-financed with Next Generation EU funds.
  • Finally, the Film Music Lab will be presented, where composers and film directors will work hand in hand, composing original music for different productions, the result of which can be seen live.

BIME also dedicates a space for young people looking for a niche in this industry through its CAMPUS program and for those looking to accelerate their business in the Start Up! Competition, all in collaboration with the Basque Government, among other institutions and leading companies.

COMMITMENT TO EQUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

BIME continues to strengthen its commitment to achieving a more egalitarian and inclusive industry and does so through MUSIC EQUALITY FORUM, the program designed to discuss, give visibility, and seek solutions. Among the collaborating associates are MIM, Keychange, SHESAID.SO, Femnoise, Ruidosa, MUSAP, Descubreas, and new ones such as WIM Colombia and MIM LATAM, Mewem. The program includes the chance to meet collectives such as Orfigyal – Karne Kulture whose ideological commitment is to make the night a safe space.

In addition, Sound Earth Legacy, whose goal is to present the sounds of the earth and support pioneering scientific projects on the environment through sound and music, will introduce a project. The #SELChallenge is conceived as a competition for music producers who, having exclusive access to the unique sounds of the organization, will compose a musical soundscape that invites relaxation. Three finalists will be selected to present their work at BIME as part of a new chill out space that SEL will premiere at the congress called “Refugio Sonoro”.

BIME is sponsored by the Spanish National Commission for UNESCO in formal recognition of an event that contributes to promoting the values of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

What happens at BIME and in Bilbao during the week of October 26-29 will be reflected around the world as more than 100 media representatives from different countries will come to join the conversation and spread the word of the events that occur. Among the media outlets that will participate in the meeting and provide international coverage include Billboard, KEXP and Remezcla from the United States; BBC from the United Kingdom; Infobaefrom Argentina for all of Latin America; and Radiónica and Caracol Next from Colombia.

BIME DRESSES UP

Two important award ceremonies will take place this week in Bilbao in the context of BIME:

The already recognized AWARDS FEST, which this year will also celebrate their 9th edition and will take place on October 26 at Azkuna Zentroa. This year a new category “Best Ibero-American Festival Award” will be introduced and presented for the first time; a further reflection of the strong ties that have been forged between continents.

The BIME EQUITY AWARDS, born from the hand of Amazon Music to give visibility and recognize female and LGTBIQ+ talent. In this first edition, to be held on October 27 at La Ribera, awards will be given to people who stand out for their career and future projection, as well as for their social commitment, in the categories of live and recorded music, artist development, new talent, inspirational Keychange, and festivals.

FOUR DAYS OF MUSIC WITH MORE THAN 65 CONCERTS WITH FREE ADMISSION

In this tenth edition, BIME LIVE will bring live music to the heart of Bilbao, flooding the city with four days of concerts, from Wednesday, October 26 to Saturday, October 29. The best live concerts will take place in the main halls and open-air stages with a free admission program, allowing you to discover the talents of the future and the most avant-garde performers of the moment.

A total of 65 concerts by artists from Germany, Cuba, France, Colombia, Austria, Chile, the Netherlands, Argentina, Poland, Portugal, and Spain give you the chance to enjoy a wide range of musical styles including flamenco, pop, rap, trap, reggaeton, indie, reggae, alternative, R&B, folk, hardcore, hyperpop, and electronica. This program will be complemented by screenings of music documentaries.

BIME LIVE thus seeks to bring its program closer to both the processional public that attends the music congress and the public of Bilbao, democratizing access to culture and becoming a celebration of music that is committed to new artistic talent, placing itself in the very center of the city.
