The international festival Cala Mijas extends its program with free concerts on the beach

La Cala de Mijas will be the setting for the La Playa program, which will take place from Thursday to Saturday with artists like La Dani, Kumbia Queers, Rakky Ripper, Laguna Goons or Dengue Dengue Dengue and DJs like Dinamarca, GAZZI and 8kitoo, among others.

The Organisation will enable shuttle buses from the camping and parkings since Wednesday, August 31st to facilitate mobility.

With only two weeks to go before the long-awaited first edition of the Cala Mijas international festival, great artists continue to join the event and today we reveal the program for La Playa, which will take place in Cala de Mijas from Thursday 1st of September to Saturday 3rd. After the incredible international and national impact of the previously announced artists, Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers or Kraftwerk, today 15 new names are added to the line-up.

Throughout the three days of the festival, music will also be playing in Cala de Mijas from 12 noon with the programming of La Playa. On Thursday the 1st, it will be the turn of Latin sounds with the punk rock and cumbia rithms of Kumbia Queers, the intense sounds  from Peru of Dengue Dengue Dengue and the viral LVL1 with her bedroom ballroom. Fiebre DJs and Dinamarca will also be joining the party. The second day will be starring the Latin western duo Cosmic Wacho and the collective from Granada PLASAPORROS, joining on the decks will be B2BBs, GAZZI and 8kitoo. On Saturday, September 3rd, we will enjoy the neo-flamenco queer style of La Dani, the andalusian pioneer of hyperpop Rakky Ripper and the DJs Coco Flores and Derek .V. Bulcke.

Some adjustments to complete the program and close each day of the festival with great artists on the decks: Daniless will close the first day of the festival, the special B2B by 2manyfriends and the Barcelonan John Talabot will be closing the festival on their respective stages, Victoria and La Caleta, and the end of the last day will be led by the queen of techno Nina Kraviz and the Madrilenian Pional.

A festival with an exceptional line-up, formed by consolidated bands with a long history that, together with the most avant-garde electronic and urban sounds, make the Cala Mijas line-up an unmissable date to enjoy music both during the day, at La Playa’s programming, as at night, in the newly conditioned Sonora Mijas venue;  which will open its doors at 5:00 p.m. each day.

A comfortable and accessible festival

Free shuttle buses

More than 100,000 people from 50 countries are expected to attend throughout the three days of the festival. So, in order to facilitate mobility, the festival organisation will provide attendees free shuttle buses from Wednesday until Sunday. The buses will stop at different points in the town, both to and from Sonora Mijas. These stops will be located in the festival’s parking lots and at the camping. The schedule will be uninterrupted from Thursday at 4 p.m. until 7 a.m. each day.

3 parking areas

The Organisation has also worked together with the Mijas Town Hall to generate spaces to facilitate mobility, and this includes three parking areas with capacity for more than 5,000 vehicles and motorcycles. These areas are located in Las Lagunas, El Lagar and El Hipódromo.

Additionally, the improvements made in the surroundings of the enclosure during the last year will facilitate the access to the festival venue. It will be pedestrianised by the Avenida de los Gatos del Cortijo Colorado.

Organised trips

Organised trips are also available from Madrid, Valladolid, Cáceres, Valencia, Alicante, and Murcia, as well as from cities in the Andalusian region itself, including Seville, Almería, Granada, and Córdoba. There is also the option of visiting the festival for just one day from cities such as Estepona, Marbella, Málaga, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Tarifa, Motril, Almuñécar, Granada, and Seville.

Wristband pickup

Also, from Tuesday, for the convenience of attendees and to facilitate staggered access, passes can be exchanged for festival wristbands at various designated locations.

Cashless

Cala Mijas will be an entirely cashless festival. The public will be able to pay for all festival-related things (merchandising, food, and drinks) with a simple twist of their wrist thanks to the technology integrated in the smart wristbands that each attendee will receive when validating their passes. The wristbands guarantee a secure payment system.

An environmentally conscious festival: Embrace the seo of Mijas

Furthermore, the Cala Mijas festival reaffirms its commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the preservation of the marine environment. Building a community that is aware and committed to the care and conservation of the Costa del Sol is a priority for the festival. For that matter, Cala Mijas has joined forces with the NGO Equilibrio Marino to carry out the project “Embrace the Sea of Mijas” (Abraza el mar de Mijas), which seeks to enhance and recover SAC Calahonda (Special Area of Conservation) on the Mijas coastline. Calahonda has the highest marine biodiversity in Europe, with both Atlantic and Mediterranean species, and was declared as SAC by the European Commission in 2015.

Equilibrio Marino will conduct an environmental study to inspect the state of the sea and its ecosystems. Additionally, activities such as plogging (waste collection) will be organised along the beaches, as well as diving days to clean the seabed.
