The Chemical Brothers, Röyksopp, Bomba Estéreo and Róisín Murphy join the international Cala Mijas festival

The event announces its daily programme and adds twelve new names from the global scene, to which many more will be added in the coming months

A festival that cannot be missed. The lineup for the first edition of Cala Mijas, to be held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of September, is beginning to take shape. After the positive global response to the 23 names previously announced, today both the daily lineup and the new artists joining the festival will be revealed—further solidifying the event as an essential part of this summer’s agenda.   

Headlining opening day will be the Arctic Monkeys, the undisputed kings of British rock who are featuring an exclusive date in our country. Joining them on Thursday will be the innovative pop artist, composer and producer Róisín Murphy; the indie-pop of Inhaler; the ambient electronica of Bonobo; the spirituality of Australian Chet Faker; the multifaceted Marc Rebillet; Blossoms; and The Lathums. The Spanish scene will be represented by the catchy melodies of Sen Senra, the queen of trap Albany, the explosive guitars of Venturi and the sonic paradises of Uniforms.

Friday’s lineup will feature more renowned artists from the international electronic music scene, as The Chemical Brothers will join Kraftwerk, after a 7-year hiatus, for their eagerly awaited new show. The long-lived union of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons will also bring acclaimed anthems such as “Galvanize” and “Hey Boy Hey Girl” to the Costa del Sol. Latin flavour will be provided by both Bomba Estéreo and the previously announced Nathy Peluso. Soulwax, the dance project from the masters of the decks 2manydjs, will join on September 2nd as well as the duo formed by Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul with their debut album. They will share that day with the indietronica band Hot Chip and the techno marching band MEUTE. As far as national artists are concerned, two new names with unique Andalusian roots, Chico Blanco and Queralt Lahoz, will perform on the second day of the festival together – for the moment – with GAZZI, Hnos Munoz and Rusowsky.

British frontman Liam Gallagher will headline the third day of the event. Day three includes Norwegians Röyksopp with their long-awaited return to the stage after eight years of (almost) silence; and the already confirmed James Blake and Love of Lesbian. The untameable South African based in Berlin, Alice Phoebe Lou, and the indie-rock band León Benavente will also join this last day of the festival and they will accompany El Columpio Asesino, Fuel Fandango, Santa Salut and, from Malaga, La Trinidad.

In short, this is a lineup where artistic plurality will converge with multiple musical styles; all distributed over three days that continue to complete the pieces of the debut edition of Cala Mijas.

A festival of grand scale. The international Cala Mijas festival will take place at the Sonora Mijas venue, located in Cala de Mijas, just 15 minutes from the beach. The site has a surface area of 150,000 square metres to accommodate the 40,000 people expected each day and will have four stages and areas dedicated to hospitality.

There will be 17,000 camping pitches available for the attendees which will be distributed in different areas close to the venue: Parque de los Olivos, with a capacity of 2,000 pitches, will host glamping, the VIP version of camping where you can stay with the comforts of a hotel but surrounded by nature with prices starting at €75 euros for five nights; and camping options at a more economical price will be located in the Hipódromo de Mijas and will have a capacity of 15,000 pitches.

Access to the festival is available from different parts of the peninsula and Andalusia. Organised bus tours to enjoy four days of the festival in Mijas will depart from Madrid, Valladolid, Cáceres, Valencia, Alicante and Murcia. From the Andalusian region itself, buses will depart from Seville, Almeria, Granada and Cordoba. There is also the option to visit the festival for a single day (with tickets on sale now) from towns such as Estepona, Marbella, Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Tarifa, Motril, Almuñecar, Granada and Seville. Whether it’s to spend the last days of summer on the Costa del Sol or at the festival itself, there are numerous ways to get there.

Festival organisers are working together with the Mijas Town Hall to create roads and paths to facilitate mobility to the festival and will set up three parking areas to accommodate around 5,000 vehicles and motorbikes.
